At Desert Drive, we appreciate the enduring legacy of the Ford Ranger, a mid-size pickup that has served as a reliable workhorse and off-road companion for many drivers in Las Vegas. From its original roots in 1983 to the modern T6.2 iterations, the Ranger has adapted to the needs of its owners while maintaining its body-on-frame heritage. As many of these vehicles retire from service or transition to newer models, we’re here to facilitate a seamless donation process that benefits both you and our community.
Many typical Ranger donors in the Las Vegas area are facing the generational shift from the classic 4.0L V6 to the more fuel-efficient turbocharged options found in the 2019+ T6 models. Whether it’s a beloved original Ranger, an adventurous model ready for the desert, or a work-truck that's completing its service, your donation can make a significant impact while potentially offering you valuable tax deductions.

Refinements were made to both the interior and exterior, while maintaining the robust performance characteristics that Ranger owners expect.

Reintroduced on the global T6 platform, the Ranger returned with a 2.3L EcoBoost engine and advanced features, catering to both work and play.
T6.2 • 2024-present
The latest T6.2 versions, including the high-performance Ranger Raptor, highlight modern engineering with a focus on off-road capability and power.
Known issues by generation
Each Ranger generation has its share of known issues. The original models often suffer from timing-chain guide failures, leading to costly repairs, while the 2019+ EcoBoost engines have been reported to experience head-gasket issues and coolant intrusion. Additionally, the automatic transmission in the 2019-2020 models may exhibit shuddering, a common concern shared with the F-150. Other factors like frame rust lawsuits and the need for Twin I-Beam suspension alignment highlight the importance of careful maintenance and attention to these vehicles over their lifetimes.
Donation value by condition + generation
Your Ranger's value upon donation will vary based on several factors, including whether it's a 4WD or 2WD, trim level, and overall condition. Off-road trims like the Raptor and other collector versions can command higher values, making them particularly appealing for donations. Crew cab and extended cab models typically attract a premium, while manual transmission variants from the original generation are sought after by collectors. Keep in mind that the market for the 2019+ T6 models is still evolving, offering significant potential as they become more established.
Donation process for this model
Donating your Ford Ranger to Desert Drive is a straightforward process. Our standard flatbed tow truck can handle vehicles with a GVWR between 5500-6500 lbs, making it ideal for most Ranger models. Optional bed caps and toppers are welcome; however, if your truck has a lift kit or aftermarket wheels, we kindly ask you to disclose this during the donation process. Rest assured, removals of 5th-wheel or gooseneck hitches are not required, making your donation experience as easy as possible.
Las Vegas regional notes
In Las Vegas, the Ford Ranger holds special significance as it caters to both urban work-truck needs and the demands of off-road enthusiasts. The desert environment fosters a high demand for durable off-road trims, while the retirement of many original fleet trucks generates a strong pipeline for donations. With frame rust being a less common issue in our dry climate, your Ranger can be a valuable asset for supporting local initiatives through our donation program.
